Abstract

In this article of the series Statistics in Psychotherapy Science, the application of methods for comparing several related k-independent and k-dependent samples and their interactions in one model (mixed ANOVA and multi-factorial) in the sense of a best practice approach is presented. Furthermore, their appliance in RCT (Randomised Controlled Trials) is discussed. Recommendations are given for (1) an optimal choice of procedure, (2) the use of effect sizes, (3) the designation of the relevance of the results and (4) report conventions for the presentation of results.  In addition, the multifactorial ANOVA for independent samples is presented as another application area of interactions. Finally, the use of this group of procedures in the context of psychotherapy science is illustrated using practical examples.
