Couples’ therapy in movies and series

Abstract

The article investigates how couples' therapy is presented in movies and series. It is analyzed whether and how the current practice of couples’ therapy is reflected in the cinematic presentation. It asks and explores, which narrative goals the visualized processing of couples’ therapy pursues.During the process, selected scenes of movies have been studied, in which couples are in therapy or are in a setting similar to therapy.

Scenes in movies and series of couples' therapy that exhibit a realistic representation of current therapy approaches and processes, will be critically analyzed applying the knowledge of current couples' therapy practices.
